The Program

If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.

John Dewey

The program of the School of Education of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation and the University of Warsaw School of Education is meant for graduates of Polish Philology or Mathematics who are looking for new solutions in education and wish to develop their skills as teachers.

The program, the first of its kind in Poland, was created thanks to the cooperation of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation, University of Warsaw, the Foundation of Quality Education, the Centre for Citizenship Education and the support of experts from the renowned Teachers College Colubia University.

Full-time Postgraduate Studies

The SE program is a one year, full time postgraduate program. Classes take place Monday to Friday. On completion, students receive a post-graduate diploma which gives them the right to become practicing teachers of Polish or mathematics in all types of schools and institutions.

For the fist few years the studies are free of charge, and students can apply for a scholarship intended to help cover the costs of living, and student housing at the University of Warsaw.

Varied Program

SE is a professional preparatory program in the fields of pedagogy, didactics, psychology, the development of leadership and creative skills.

A Dualistic Teaching Model

The program combines academic theory with a year-long practice in schools. The schedule has been synchronised with the school year. The program lasts 10 months. Each day, the students participate in the morning classes of their practice schools. These are over 30 elementary, middle and high schools in Warsaw and surrounding areas, in which they get to know the full extent of a teacher’s job- participating in faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences as well as teaching and co-teaching classes. In the afternoons, at the School of Education, they participate in academic classes.

A Team of Experts

SE professors have practical teaching experience, represent various academic institutions, and have the support of leading American and European specialists in the area of teacher training. The faculty is made up of people actively involved in education, who view it from different perspectives: as practicing teachers, academics, and people passionate about education.

Individual Approach

The students are under the guidance of SE tutors as well as mentors (teachers from practice schools). Classes are taught in small groups, with emphasis on discussion and systematic reflection on one’s own learning.
